Google is still trying to make Stadia a success story, despite studio closure

Following Google's announcement that it's closing its first-party studio, Stadia Games, the company has revealed that "100 games will be added to the Stadia store in 2021." Google details the news in a recent blog post, which shows off some of the new third-party releases coming to the streaming service.

Among the headliners are the Shantae games, Half-Genie and Risky's Revenge, which arrive later this month. Other big games include FIFA 21, Hellpoint, and Yakuza spin-off Judgment. Following Stadia Games' closure announcement, it isn't overly surprising to see the company double down on third-party releases for the platform.

"In 2021, we’re expanding our efforts to help game developers and publishers take advantage of our platform technology and deliver games directly to their players," explains Phil Harrison, Stadia's vice president and GM. "We believe this is the best path to building Stadia into a long-term, sustainable business that helps grow the industry."
