Rovio Has Pulled the Plug on Angry Birds Tennis

Not for the first time this year, Rovio has canned a project after it failed to perform as well as hoped in soft-launch.

Back in July, the Finnish company took its puzzle RPG Phoenix Rangers to a secluded spot in the woods and shot it through the back of the head. This time around the victim is Angry Birds Tennis, an intriguing sports sim that will never see the light of day due, presumably, to being not good enough.

Angry Birds Tennis was first unveiled in February of this year, before undergoing iOS soft-launches in February and July. The game promised single-player or multiplayer gameplay, with a choice of characters from the Angry Birds universe.

It looked quite good, but evidently it wasn’t commercially appealing enough to graduate to full gamehood. Consequently, it’s consigned to forever languish on the squirming heap of nearly-rans.
